New Investigators and Remembering Miss Idaho!

This is going to be short, sadly but I will hit the highlights! Best parts of the week...

There is a man named Hermano Escobar and he is so great! :) His family lives in Mexico but he is here working for them. He has been a member for about 13 years so it is perfect to take him with us. This last week he told us his daughter in Mexico wants to go on a mission!  That is why he is here working...to help pay for her mission. I broke down and cried. We are so blessed to be able to live with our families and not have to move to other countries to provide for them. Thank you so much for helping me go on a mission. I am so happy I am here! How blessed are we to have families that can be together forever.

This weekend was a little bitter-sweet it being Miss Idaho and everything, but I couldn't be happier! :) We met an investigator at a park (there are a ton of homeless people there it’s really sad).  Anyway, we were waiting for Maria and met Jose and he is so ready for the gospel. He didn't come to church this weekend which was a bummer, but he is ready and so needs the gospel right now.

We did a fast with our investigator Maria and it was awesome! She was the one that the elders before us taught.  She was supposed to be baptized a long time ago but I am so grateful she wasn't. She does NOT have a testimony of the Book of Mormon or Joseph Smith. She HATES it when people say that this is the, "only true church." I understand where she is coming from, but at the same time, she should never join the church until she believes that.

This week I realized how much Miss Idaho prepared me for a mission. Being on a bike in skirts makes it kind of hard for people to NOT look at us. J We really are the center of attention on the busses and everywhere we go. Thank goodness that doesn't bother me, because it would be hard if it made me uncomfortable. This may sound weird but doing pageants really did help prepare me for my mission in that aspect. Planning has also been huge and being so involved with Junior Miss for so many years, I have become pretty dang efficient with my time and good at making decisions. I am so grateful that I am able to use those skills here.

I also think that my time doing Junior Miss and pageants helped me have an easier time talking to people. It isn't hard to start up random conversations on the bus. It is pretty easy to smile all the time as a missionary. I find myself using interview techniques I learned from pageants in my lessons. I have also had a lot of experience dealing with girls. :) That has and will come in handy on my mission. The other day my sweet companion asked me to do her make-up...so Liz, all of those tips you gave me are being passed on to others!  J

These pictures are with a recent convert/less active named Donna.  She is incredible and the only member in her family. She helps her mom with the "helotes" every night. We go and help her husk corn when we can! :)

We had interviews with the President and his wife. He kept saying, “We can just tell you and Hermana Oxley are a strong companionship”. He also asked me if we would be more effective in cars and I couldn't lie! :) Our area is HUGE and we waste a lot of time traveling.

My sweet Elsa is doing so great! She is finally reading the Book of Mormon...AND UNDERSTANDING IT ALL!  I love that woman! She has been the brightest shining light ever. :) We did a really cool lesson using water balloons at the park to teach her and her kids baptism.

Last night we had another really cool experience. Over a week ago, we met a woman named Yesena. She is only 26 with two kids and she is single. She always looks so exhausted when we have seen her but she is absolutely gorgeous. She hardly has any religious background and doesn't talk much so it is really hard to read her. She works cleaning offices every night from 2am on. I can't believe how hard she works. Anyway, this lesson was our second time meeting her. She let us in (it had been raining like crazy again) and we started to talk. She hardly said anything and her little kids didn't really respect her very much. :(

As we started to dig deeper, I remember asking her something like, "Have you ever felt like you just have this weight on your back and you don't know where to turn or what to do"? She broke down and started crying and opened up about her family and how hard it is being a single mom. It broke my heart. We left her a Book of Mormon and taught her how to pray. I have so many questions for her still, but know without a doubt in my heart that the gospel is what can remove that burden she feels. I love her so much.  I must cry easily or something because I was bawling when she opened up to us.  Anyway, do NOT take anything for granted especially your family and situation...we are so blessed! Love you all!

Tights at church because it SO COLD! Colder than ours, mom. :)
