Valentine's Day!
We
saw so much support for Cuca this week (so that her husband in Mexico
would accept her decision to be baptized). Many women from the Relief
Society fasted with us for Cuca. Cuca actually was able to fast for the full 24
hours even though she was worried that she wouldn’t be able to. She usually has
to take medicine for her headaches and with that, eat food. She said her head
hardly hurt. She was super excited to see us, especially after what she did to
us the day before. We dropped by her house with Shannon and Cuca wouldn’t let
us in. She said that Hermana Judd was asleep and didn’t feel comfortable. She
also said that she thought it wouldn’t be ok for us to come by the next day to
have lunch with them. She was just acting super strange.
We
were able to have a little lunch with them. I downed the chicken mayo pasta
stuff. That was the most difficult thing I have had to eat so far on my mission,
haha. I was basically swallowing it like pills…gross. We broke the fast and she
was just as happy as can be. We told her stories about how fasting has helped
us get rain in Idaho and lots of other stories. She is super excited! J I
just wish we could be there for her baptism. Then we taught her about the word
of wisdom. The only thing she had a problem with was drinking coffee. She never
imagined that the coffee could have been making her head hurt, but we promised
her that her headaches would go away if she stopped drinking coffee. She said
that she has had problems with headaches for years and takes medicine after
medicine. She said right then and there, “I’m not going to drink coffee
anymore.” We were so happy to hear that and we are so excited to see the Lord
fulfill that promise.
Sandra
sure has made a 180…both she AND her husband. We started watching the
Testaments with them this week and they love it. Hermana Diaz is being
incredible. She shouldn’t have done this but she gave them a dispensa. I can’t
believe it. Hermana Diaz already works so hard for what they have. I just
really hope that Sandra is very sincere. We even found her a job. We are hoping
we may have found one for her husband as well. Edwin is still as cute as ever.
When you have time, I am still hoping that Trey and Hollister can write Joel
and Edwin little notes in Spanish. Also Sandra wants me to teach her piano.
After
visiting Sandra we had dinner with Stella, a recent convert of one of the
English wards. The cool thing is that Hermana Fallentine and her comp found the
woman and taught her first, because she spoke Spanish and later passed her off
to the English elders. She has a grandson named Dominic who is 6. He has got to
be the cutest thing ever. His parents were really into drugs and so he has some
MAJOR health problems. He has breathing problems and is autistic, but oh man,
how cute is he! He came out with a tie around his neck. Then he came around
puckering out his lips so big wanting to kiss us. The funny part was when he got
around to the elders…hahahaha…there were some really RED faces. He gave us
adorable Valentine’s cards.
Highlight
of the week: receiving this text from Mary our recent convert, “I
started reading Doctrine and Covenants Hermanas…I love it! I can’t put it
down!” She is already to Section 28 in a few days. We are dying. She keeps me
sane, but she needs a calling so badly. OH and I decided that I am going to
teach all the women in Relief Society how to lead music and read it, because NO
ONE can do it. They always search for Sister Fallentine, and if I don’t have to
play the piano in Sacrament Meeting, I have to lead. We just want to help them
out a little bit!
Tomorrow
is Zone Conference (we are giving a training and doing a musical number), then
we head to Albuquerque for MLC. This week will be weird. I hope it turns out a
little bit better than last week. I am still loving it obviously, but just know
that it is not easy. J I am sad to not be there for Ash and Kurt’s wedding and
for Hazel’s baby blessing and Trey’s ordination, but I am so happy I decided to
serve a mission. It was the best decision I ever made. LOVE YOU!
