Broken bikes, and other crazy stuff!
Mom, I only have 10 min to write a quick one dang it!! I
will do highlights of the week!!!!
I got here last Tuesday night and we dinner at MY
FAVORITE FAMILY'S house...the Robleros. This is their ADORABLE 4 year old named Arlyn. Hermana Roblera and Arlyn took us
shopping today, because we don't have a car.
I guess Spanish sisters are
RARELY on bikes, but we don't mind it at all. We get to eat all we want! And
the food....oh, it is sooo good. I only had to eat potato salad last night. I
don't even know how I did it, but I did. :) That first night we didn't
unpack or anything. My companion, Sister Oxley wanted to get right to work! ;)
We didn't have bikes at this point, so we just wandered around
downtown. IT WAS SO SCARY! It is really sketchy around where we live. We hardly
even proselyte there. Anyway, it was kind of a bad night/couple of days.
The next day we
went to get bikes at WalMart. We couldn't figure out the bus system. There are three
main bus routes and we didn't even have a map that first day. The other
Spanish sisters (so fun) let us borrow their GPS. They also have a car, so we
meet places before we head to dinner usually. Then, the next problem we had was
my companion picked out a not so great bike and we had to go BACK to WalMart
and switch it out. Then as we were leaving WalMart, something on MY bike broke.
I am telling you we had so many crazy things happen. The next day, my
sweet companion left our phone at a bus stop. Then last night, her bike had a
flat tire again. We have literally had EVERYTHING happen this week! Oh,
and I didn't mention we are white washing this area, meaning we are BOTH new to
the area. We BOTH don't know where we are going. She used to be in El Paso!
Hermana Oxley is my companion and is great! She is 21, from Vacaville, CA, and went to BYU. She is
very obedient (sometimes a little much, but it is ok...we balance each other
out). When she broke her bike
last night, we met Floyd. He speaks English so we are going to have to give him
to the other elders, but he is awesome. He said he has been an alcoholic since
7. ANYWAY, I don't have time to tell you all dang it, but it was so amazing.
On the way home, the busses didn't run last night, so we
literally biked the distance of our entire area! It was nuts, and there was
a storm....it was crazy. Plus, we had to walk through the scary part of town at
night (walking our bikes, because her bike broke). Luckily, we met a guy named
Marshall and he walked us ALL the way home.
The last thing I want to tell you is about
Elsa. We were knocking doors and not having ANY luck at all. We were both being
kind of timid, don't know why. We went down this dead end, saw some people
outside (we both got scared and didn't talk to them). As we were leaving I told Hermana Oxley, "I really think we need to go talk to them". I am SOOOOO glad we did. This
lady is GOLD. Her name is Elsa, just had breast cancer and totally opened
up to us. I couldn't believe it! No doubt she is going to figure it out. We
teach her again tonight! I will let you know!
Love you all! Wish I could
write more. Next week for sure! LOVES! BESITOS!
