MTC: Week 5

This is probably going to be really scattered, but I will try my best!

I recently did something that a lot of foreign language speaking missionaries want to have happen...my sweet companions told me that I was speaking in Spanish in my sleep two nights ago!!! How exciting for me! :)  Probably a little annoying to them that I woke them up.

Thank you SO MUCH for the package! LOVED IT! And the extra little surprises, like the MAC lipstick (my fave).  This last week FLEW BY! And I can't believe Carson gets here next week. She is seriously going to love it so much here.

Dad, I am sad to say I didn't break the 3 pointer record of 14 in a row, but I got 13 this week! Can you believe it? I was pretty mad that I didn't do it, but I got so close. I might go sneak in and try one last time on Saturday, but maybe not.  It was so fun to be able to play ball a few times a week here. I love playing with my district and sometimes I get lucky and there is another girl to play. When that happens, I get to actually play ball, not just "Bump" or "7 on the line".

For the last two weeks I have been making my own Spanish "Plan of Salvation" visual aid.  I color during any free time we have, during lunch, at night before bed, etc. It has taken me so long to finish it, because we don't have a lot of "free" time. With that said, I finished it yesterday. I am so excited to laminate the cutouts today! My whole district loves them and wants copies too. Hermana Thompson helped me out and made my little people that go along with it. :)

One day everyone in the district came to class in matching clothes- totally unplanned!  We took an awkward family photo to commemorate it. :)

Random thought, you know how I hate pickles? Well when they have food outside, they have Subway, pizza, and usually something else. The Subway sandwiches are premade though and they always have pickles on them. Every time I just pick them off, but I will admit, I kind of like the LITTLE TINY HINT of pickles on them! I think I am just so sick of the food at the MTC that I will eat anything.:)

Every Monday morning we do service. I LOVE the girl that works in our building. Her name is Sister Bowles and she got back from her mission awhile ago. She always tells us the sweetest stories from her mission before we clean. Also, did you know the church saves a million dollars a year by having us do service at the MTC like this? Crazy and awesome!

Before I forget, I got my travel plans. My flight leaves at 9:50am on Monday, but we have to be at the travel office by 5am. I am pretty sure I will be able to call...and almost as importantly, will be able to eat Cafe Rio in the airport. ;)

I finally got to sing in the choir at devotional. If you want to sing on Tuesday, you have to go to rehearsals on Sunday and Tuesday and we finally did it. I think I enjoyed it more than my companions haha.. The choir director is hilarious.

Have you heard about the big "Mission President's Training" thing that is coming up and the prophet will speak and all the apostles will be there. If you are in the big choir here during it, you will get to sing for them! Too bad I will be gone. Carson HAS to do it!

On Monday night, we did our last TRC meeting. It is where we teach actual members of the church in Spanish. Our guy this week was adorable! He served his mission in Uruguay a long time ago and has been a patriarch, stake prez, etc. His name is Thomas J. Monson. :) That was a sweet experience.

This week, my teacher Hermana Vawdrey picked me to be her companion for a class demonstration in teacher our "other teacher" as an investigator with problems with the word of wisdom and law of chastity. The whole class watched us plan for a few minutes, and then we went for it. It was really awesome teaching with a teacher. They are such good teachers and I feel like being here for six weeks has been such a blessing.

It has also been so neat to go to the temple every week. I forgot to tell you but two weeks ago we didn't have time for a session and there was a huge line for initiatory.  So, instead we did laundry downstairs! It was so much fun! I love the temple, we are going again today :) I always think of Grandma and Grandpa when I see the cute temple workers there.  When they do open up the new campus of the MTC. I hear that eventually that is where all the Spanish speakers will be- kinda cool!

I am without a doubt the happiest I have been in awhile. :) It is so wonderful here. Yesterday, we came home from a very long day and then spent an hour visiting the sisters in our zone. We came home and just couldn't believe how awesome the day was.

Thank you so much Mom, Dad, family, and friends for being so supportive of me doing this.  Mom and Dad, thank you for being so religious about writing me. It has been such a blessing to hear from you so often. I miss y'all, but haven't been homesick at all.

I know without a doubt this is where I am supposed to be. We talked a lot about "burying" our swords and hope in God's plan for us. I have been feeling like I have been holding myself back a little bit for this reason. When I decided to come on a mission, it was obviously very hard to give up my dream of walking on the Miss America stage especially after coming so close (it is exactly a year in a couple days that I was so honored to get 1st runner up to Whitney). With that said, I wasn't totally devastated about giving it up, because I knew that when I came home I would have another year of eligibility of doing it again if I really wanted to.

After being at the MTC, I have decided that I am officially done with Miss Idaho. I love it and I feel like I learned a lot from it, but honestly I feel like I have learned all I could possibly learn from it.  I will need to move on to PA school when I get back and eventually get married....eventually, haha. I love the program so much, so it has been so hard to give in to God's will, but I have already felt so much peace in making this decision, and I know God will bless me for burying this sword so early on in my mission. I have cried some pretty hard tears over it, but I have prayed really hard and know this is what I am supposed to do.

I can't even begin to say how sad I am to leave my adorable teachers. Hermana Doxey is SO MUCH like me it is crazy. She sings, dances, and gave up a lot of the same things I did to go on a mission. I am so grateful to have known her and Hermana Vawdrey. My time is running out, but I will talk more about them next week!

One more random thing...boys, I can NOT believe the kittens eat REAL FOOD! Holy cow...what is the status now with them?

I love you all! Next time I write, I will be in NEW MEXICO!
