Apartment Troubles!
Last week I got to play a little bball again. That was very
needed! :) One of these mornings, we are going to bike to a court so I can play.
Alfredo and his little puppy...he loves to lick like crazy!
Rosa is adorable- she is the one with three boys. She is so respectful when we go there. All of the boys sit and listen. They are very polite! Rosa said she believes everything, but wants more time and to come to church before she will commit to anything. The hard thing with Hispanic people is that they are SO nice. Sometimes you can't tell if they are really interested or not. The only people I have had be mean to me have been white people. I am embarrassed for them sometimes.
I am still loving it here and am really appreciating the prayers and support!

On the street where we live!
This week we did a TON of finding and contacting. On Monday night
we had a ton of success. One of my
favorites was Ines. We were walking down this street and I saw a 12 year old
girl shooting a basketball a little ways away. Of course we went to go talk to
her and found out her name is Estela. She is so stinking cute, and knows
Spanish! All we did Monday night was get to know her and give her a card. It
wasn't until last night that we decided to go back.
Last night it was about 8 o'clock and I just had this
feeling in my gut that we were going to find one more new investigator for the
week. We talked to some drunk guys and then decided to head back to kind of
where we live. Then we thought, why not pass by Ines again, maybe her
family is home. We had a sweet member with us, Hermana Castillo. As we drove
up, I was feeling very hesitant, I don't know why. Then we prayed and went up
to the door. Ines' mom ended up coming to the door and she thought we were her
sister so she kind of yelled at us, haha.
Then she realized who we were and she was a different person. She let us
come in right then and teach her and her daughter! She was so open to us and
wants to come to Bible Study on Thursday and have her two kids go to mutual.
She said she is Christian, but hasn't been to church in a long time. At one
point she said, "You seem so happy…what do you have?" It was so cool!
Then we were able to kind of prep her for what we would expect from us meeting with
her as well as ask her expectations. She was so nice though...so that is Estela
and Ines!
Bible Study- My Fair Lady anyone? :)
We had kind of a heart break with Maria Garcia. She rode her
bike with us to a park and we had a lesson (oh man, it was funny riding with
her to the park). :) Sad part is that she doesn't want to come to church
anymore. She said she still wanted to meet with us, but doesn't want to change
her religion basically. That really was a heart breaker because Maria is
amazing and honestly I don't know what more we can do for her. She is just not
ready. I realized this week that sometimes all we do is set the foundation for
someone and sometimes we get to be a part of the baptism process. Every part,
however, is absolutely worth it!
We also probably won't be meeting with Neftaly anymore. He
is always drunk when we go by, but he really made some progress this week. He
really opened up to us, but he isn't quite ready either and he moved. We taught
our adorable Alfredo and his mom. We might have to wait until next month for
his baptism, because he still hasn't come to church. We have rides for him, but
he is never ready when the rides come. :) That's an 8 year old for ya! He is
very cute though!
Our investigator Raul is progressing poco a poco. It is so
exciting! This last week, he read every single day, and he came to church! :)
He is hilarious and I am trying to set him up with a lady in the ward. Our
elders said he might need a couple new teeth before that happens. ;) I like his
gold teeth.
We had leadership training this week. I had meetings for one
day, basically all day! I was so proud of my comp though, because she had to
make some phone calls in Spanish on her own. We are moving to texting and phone
calls this week for her.
Ana did not get baptized due to a few family issues, but
will be in the next weeks. It had NOTHING to do with her testimony. She is so
ready and really has this burning desire to be baptized. Did I mention how much
I love Ana? She is so great!
Elsa Cano continues to amaze me. Although her husband still
won't let her come to church, this last week we were able to teach her 18 year old
son with her. He just had a kid and got out of jail or something. Anyway, she is
doing all she can to progress on her own, like reading and praying.
Sandra and her family are doing AWESOME! We are having an
FHE tonight with the Roblero family. Sandra is very excited about church things
and always wants to go but can't drive. We are hoping they can make it to
church this next week finally.
We had major issues with our apartment this week. Our air
didn't work for a week and a half...you can probably imagine it was pretty miserable.
Next there was a sewage back up and our shower wouldn't drain. Then black stuff that smelled like rotten
eggs started coming up out of the drain yeah...nasty. It took a few days to
fix, so I have been counting my blessings since.
President and Sister Miller came to our apartment for
interviews this week. It was so nice. They are seriously some of the most
loving people I know! :)
Favorite food this week was Hermana Sanchez's homemade flour
tortillas and beans! :)
I am still loving it here and am really appreciating the prayers and support!
