My first baptism!
This week was AWESOME!
To start off the week, I finally got an appointment to get
my plantar wart taken care of. Thank goodness! It has been bugging me for five
months (you can imagine with all of the walking and biking we do). The doctor I
met with is LDS. He is actually the bishop of a ward in Rio Rancho, which is a
gorgeous place about 30 minutes from where I live. We had a woman from the ward
take us to the appointment, and let me tell you, we about died on our way.
About thirty years ago she was in a car accident and received brain damage from
it. She drives, but I don't know if she should? Maybe.
Anyway she is about the cutest and sweetest woman ever and
offered to take us! :) I was about to grab the wheel multiple times and I was
constantly checking her blind spots as she weaved in and out of lanes going on
curves. When we finally got there, the nurse took my blood pressure and she
said, "this is really high, are you nervous"? I said, "not to see the doctor, but yes I
was very nervous for my life about 15 minutes ago"! I am grateful that we
made it back ok.
The doctor gave me two options 1) to burn it off with the
chance of it coming back or 2) to cut it out and it probably would not come
back. I decided to not take any chances. He gave me a shot on the top of my foot.
That actually hurt a lot. Then as my foot numbed up, he gave me another on the
ball of my foot. Then he went with a little scalpel and took it out. I wanted
to see what he was doing, but I couldn't.
I am just glad it is gone. My foot has been VERY sore this
week...it hurts so bad to walk, but I know it will be better in the long run.
The biggest bummer is that I can't play ball today. L An elder who is
leaving tomorrow really wanted to stuff me this week, but it doesn't look like that
is ever going to happen, like it ever would have! ;)
I'm learning lot's of new words too!
The beautiful boot I get to wear.
The next biggest exciting thing this week was ANA GOT
BAPTIZED! The first baptism of my mission! She was so ready. I can't even begin
to tell you how sweet the baptism was. That morning we decided to go do service
at her house. We helped her clean her house and car and it was so much fun! :)
Her little Isaac who is four is a piece of work. He is the CUTEST thing ever,
but a hand full. He kept spraying us with water and getting us all soapy. He
was actually pretty good for us during the baptism.
During the confirmation on Sunday, I had him come up with me
and sit on the front row right in front of his mom. At first he was good, then
he started standing up and trying to jump over into the second row. Everyone
thought it was pretty funny and cute. I was dying trying to get him to come
down. All I know is that I love Ana so much. She is only two years older than
me and is single and plays sports and we just get along so well. I told her I
am coming back in a year to go through the temple with her. She had Hermana
Gubeli and I give the talks at her baptism. I got super emotional, just because
I love her so much.
Another funny story was also the day of the baptism. Earlier
that day, we took a member out with us to see Marcos. We hadn't seen him since
we met him in the park a week earlier. When we met him in the park, we
basically taught him the restoration and he loved it! So we were super excited
for our lesson. It was going so great when we got there. He had remembered so
much. We were basically done with the lesson and were teaching him about the
Book of Mormon when his wife walked in and said, "These girls better be
Catholic. Are they"? He lied and said yes, because he wanted to keep
hearing more. Then she went to the kitchen and started throwing things and
saying stuff like, "I will make them prove they are Catholics"! I
thought she was going to come out with a knife. Then she came out and directly
asked us if we were Catholic- of course I didn't lie. I said, “No, we aren't” and
she started FLIPPING OUT! Flipping out and saying "Retirense" which
means, "don't ever ever come back”. It was so sad, because Marcos is so ready to
hear the gospel. Usually it is controlling husbands that we met, but this time
it was the wife...so weird. He will get his chance though.
BTW, in my dreams this week I went to a dance (remember that
you can't control yourself in your dreams). I felt SOOOO BAD during my dream and when I
woke up. Hermana Wilcoxson said that is when you know you are becoming
consecrated! J
Maria wants to take us out on visits, and she is our
investigator. How cool is that? She loved church so much. Refugio, her mom, has
read about 60 pages in the Book of Mormon.
Love you all! Hope to hear from you soon!
