"Buff-ets"

Ready to hear transfer news?  I am staying AND I couldn't be happier (well maybe with a car...not gonna lie) but we have so much potential here!

Updates on investigators:

Alfredo (9 year old) and his less active mom Yesena:  We had a cute lesson about the Book of Mormon with them this week. I have a simplified Book of Mormon with the pictures in Spanish. We copied a story and are trying to get them to read and pray as a family. He should get baptized by the end of the month.

Oliver and Gloria: Oliver has read an enormous amount of the Book of Mormon as well as conference talks and other church books. It is amazing. He has such a great understanding of the Bible and it makes it super easy to teach him. Yesterday he said,  "I always look for flaws when I am studying religions, and with this one I haven't found any." How cool!  He understands the organization that Christ established and how it needs to be exactly the same now. We haven't taught him the Word of Wisdom, but he obviously knows we don't drink tea because we were having a lesson and his wife Gloria brought what we thought was juice. After we had been drinking it for a while he said, "OH, you don't drink TEA!" Good times, haha. Well, I had never had it before and not going to lie it didn't taste horrible. Pretty sure Heavenly Father forgave us for not knowing. J We took the perfect member with us, Hermana Martinez. She KNOWS her stuff. It is VITAL to have a member there and speaking of members our mission president changed the standards for the mission:

·         baptize weekly

·         20 lessons with a member present

·         5 investigators progressing always

It is a lot, but I know we can do it with the ward's help.

Maria: She is still trying to quit smoking, but she isn't showing desires to come to church so we can't do anything about that. She has a bad relationship with her mom and we are trying to help them with that, because her mom Refugio really wants to be baptized.

Erlinda: Her nietas still love to death. She is hot and cold with us. Every time we have a lesson with her it is amazing, but she is still struggling a little.

Lupita: She was super cold when we first went to teach her, but after some time of talking she totally opened up again and then ended up feeding us. She is adorable. I just want to start teaching her husband too.  Her daughter Joceline is adorable and love us!

There is this bus driver named Beverly who LOVES us! She has some Mormon background and Mormon friends. We have given her cards and stuff...so hopefully something happens there.

Adriana and Yolanda: They are the mom and daughter in the baby shower pics below! Adorable...such a cute Mexican baby shower. We just went for the food, because we didn't know what the games would be like, but we are so happy for Adriana. She really wants to know if this is true and we are definitely her friends.

We ate at this place called K and I Diner this week. Supposedly it was featured on Man vs. Food. Gram, you would have been very grossed out at the amount of food they served us, haha.

We had an activity planned for this week for our investigators to watch the Testaments and eat popcorn at the church but sad day, NO ONE showed. L  Not even members we invited and that is for three sets of missionaries. We were a little down, but it is ok. Most of our people had good reasons for why they didn't come and soon after that I got the package Ash sent me! :) LOVE YOU ASH!

Funnies from this week:
The Cruz family was feeding us and after dinner the father asked, "Le gusta gelatina?" and I said "of course I do!" As he handed me jello (gelatina) I realized that he didn't say, "la gente latina." which means “Latina people.” :)

Hermano Silva, our ward mission leader, took us out for a Chinese food buffet.  I kept getting him to say buffet, because he said "Buff-et".

Hermana Bustamante- sewing with my NM grandma!  Love her!

Ana and Jorge are doing great! We ate with all of them yesterday, and I love that family. I sure miss you all. I am learning so much and just love this area. I am realizing more and more that you can't gain the experiences you gain on a mission anywhere else. It is just such a special time to build my relationship with Heavenly Father, when I can't just rely on calling my mom or sisters when I need something.  I have to turn to Him and it is making the world of a difference in my relationship with Him. Love you so much! Hope all my kitties are doing well! ;)
