I'm here for a reason
BIG NEWS! P-days are on Tuesdays now! Hopefully that didn't
worry you all too much. :) I am sure it didn't. Yesterday was extremely hot,
and today again it is FREEZING cold. My fingers are so slow typing right now,
because I am so cold.
This week was a good week...a lot of progression with some
investigators but I did get a cold. I woke up Friday morning feeling horrible.
We had zone training, so we went anyway but I was in the back blowing my nose
every five seconds. Being sick as a missionary is a million times worse than
being sick normally at home. I don't know how many times I said to my
companion, “I just want my mom.” That is ok though- I got through it and am
feeling tons better. I still sound really congested, BUT my body isn't achy and
I don't have a sore throat and fever anymore which is fantastic.
Update on our ward mission leader, he is doing better. He is
finally home after surgery. I don't know exactly what they put in him, but he
should be doing better. He talks slower and moves slower, but is ok thank
goodness.
A kind of a funny thing happened. This week at our Bible
Study class we had a less active show up. After that we were just waiting for
our ride to get home, and the members asked us to play a little volleyball
which I am horrible at, especially in a skirt. We were playing and the first
game we lost. I thought that I was going
home a loser. :( But, then we had time for one more, so I got to redeem myself!
And guess what, you know you can jump up and block people when they spike the
ball? Well I have always wanted to do that, ever since I quit volleyball in
middle school (and stuck with basketball, the best sport ever). So I jumped up
to block Hermano Sanchez and it WORKED! Everyone was dying! Haha...they all think I am good at volleyball
now, which I am not, but whatever. So yes dad, I went home a winner...as well
as last week at bball at the church. Winners all around! ;) Now I should go buy
myself some doughnuts.
Getting a little crazy in the library at the church. Those
are the BIGGEST scissors I have ever seen! Hermana Escalante is getting me
with them!
Remember that cute 19 year old pregnant investigator? We went to her baby shower a few weeks ago.
She stopped talking to us because of her controlling husband. Well, she texted
us this week and told us to call her because she split up with him. It is kind
of a sad thing since she is about to have a baby, but at the same time I think
the child will grow up happier and healthier with one happy parent en lugar de
two fighting, not happy parents. I love that girl! She is still so interested
in the gospel, but she is about to have her baby, so it is kind of hard timing.
She will get baptized eventually- I just know it!
A very sweet thing happened last night. We had a lesson with
Olga. We met her a few weeks ago, but she really didn't show a lot of interest.
Our lesson with her was incredible this week. She and her two daughters, Ashley
and Michelle, listened to every word and she accepted the invitation to be baptized!
How exciting! She needs this so much as a single mom. She has not had an easy
life and I know that we met her for a reason. When sharing the Joseph Smith
story, I asked her, "Don’t you feel that?" referring to the Spirit.
And she said, “Yes, it is a different feeling I haven't felt before.” Man, I
love her.
Ana and Isabel took great care of me while I was sick. I
swear every Mexican has their own home-remedy for stuff...like onions on
wounds, special cremes, chile for colds!
Haha, the list is endless.
Silly photo session with Hermana Gubeli
The Primary Program was this Sunday. It was adorable! Isaac,
Ana's five year old, was the star of the show! He got up and said his line<
"YO AMO A MI MAMA!" He basically yelled and everyone was
laughing. Ana's parents who aren't
members yet even clapped a little. I was laughing so hard.
It was our sweet Edna's birthday this weekend. We ate with
her Sunday. It was so delicious. She always has such great advice for us as
missionaries...she is a returned missionary. I just look up to her a ton.
Earlier in the week, we took Isabel to go see Marta. That
was so amazing. Isabel talked about her conversion and it really hit home for
Marta. We are planning on watching the Testaments with them this week!
This is for my bestie, Hermana Carson Duke! I used to
leave these kinds of pics on her camera all the time to find later. If you
don't get what I am doing, it says "I, Love, You."
Boy am I lucky to be serving where I am. I just know that I
came here for a reason! Not only am I an affectionate person, which is how
Hispanics are too, but I just have such a deep love for these people. A love
that will continue to grow. That doesn't mean that I miss all my other friends
who speak English. I miss all of you wherever you are! J
This is such a big year for so many of you. Nessa, I can't
wait to see pics of little Hazel! :) Hollister, so proud of you for getting
baptized soon! Tbone- you are growing up SO MUCH! I can't believe you get the
priesthood this year. Mom and Dad- so many changes with the businesses but you
are always so supportive of me and take care of what I need. Ash and Kurt, boy
I love you two- sending me pics and updates constantly. J I just love you all
and miss you tons!
